Tijn Gerards

Tijn Gerards was born in 1992 in The Netherlands and currently lives in The Hague. He completed his BFA at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK), The Hague, in 2024. Prior to his artistic education, he obtained an MA in History (2018) and an MSc in Business Administration (2017) from the University of Amsterdam. His earlier career in the steel industry influenced his artistic vision, particularly the manufacturing processes and aesthetics of industrial materials. Gerards has showcased his work in group exhibitions at venues including Billytown in The Hague, Kieken Centrale in Antwerp, Pharmakon Gallery in Bucharest, RUIS in Nijmegen, and Pulchri Studio in The Hague.

For Best of Graduates 2024, Tijn presents a body of work that merges tactility and illusion across painting, sculpture, and installation. His art narrates stories about materiality, tactility, public space, and the dynamic between mediation and autonomy. Drawing inspiration from conceptual art, Arte Povera, and commonplace construction materials, Gerards’ visual vocabulary is rich and varied. His work embodies a continuous dialogue between control and chaos, materiality and perception, creating compositions that appear to live and evolve independently.
