Michal Kucharski

Michał Kucharski was born in 1997 in Krakow, Poland, and is based in Den Haag, Netherlands. He graduated from the full-time Photography Department at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, in 2024. Prior to this, he studied at the School of Art and Fashion Design in Krakow and gained practical experience on film sets as a camera operator and gaffer. Kucharski’s first solo exhibition was in 2019 at the New Era Art Gallery with his photography project What time is the future?, which includes a print now part of Jan Potocki’s collection. His work has also been featured in group exhibitions such as the Graduation Show 2024 at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and As Above, So Below at The Grey Space in The Middle, The Hague. Additionally, he directed photography for a short dance film by Urlike Quad Company and Center Stage Robotics. His fashion photography series Blessed in Between won 3rd place at the ND Awards.

For Best of Graduates 2024, Michał presents They Appeared in the Blue Midnight, a three-channel video installation exploring boyhood and societal changes in Nowa Huta, Poland. Growing up in an industrial area characterized by both modern and decaying buildings, Kucharski portrays the tension between past aspirations and an uncertain future. His work combines personal narratives with collective memories, staging scenes that reflect the community’s response to shifting societal ideals and romanticized violence.
