Fedrik Vaessen
Fedrik Vaessen was born in The Netherlands in 1994 and lives and works in Tilburg. In 2022 he received his BA from St. Joost School of Art & Design in Breda. He has exhibited works and sold them at MotMot Gallery and has organized a group show at De Blauwe Dwaas when still studying. Now he got multiple offers to exhibit his graduation sculptures and is currently working at the Stadsgallerij on the project ‘Bij/Na’, a working period made possible by the Stedelijk Museum Breda.
‘I see my works as organisms, bathing in fluids, which are intertwined with the manmade world. These bodies move through anambiguous environment, where beings, objects and elements are all operating together. It’s a blend of everything on this planet with a blurred, organic and mechanized appearance. On this terrain I find places of interest, which I extract and use as work. The mysterious uncertainty of our existence is what fuels my creations. You can find traces in these objects, which suggest what they once were or what they might become in the future. When I construct entities, they eventually start making choices by themselves. The assembling process consists of many substances, like conduits, undefined mechanical elements, horns, mystical ornaments and wax–like matter. I find new otherworldly forms through sketching and playing with materials. These explorations are fused into functionally–unknown sculptures with symbolic and science fiction undertones.’
