Lea van Vlodrop

Lea van Vlodrop was born in Germany in 1999 and grew up in a village near the Dutch border. She has exhibited her work in several venues, including B93 and Concordia in Enschede, and has been involved in organizing exhibitions such as A Shut Mouth Catches No Flies at Vrijhof. Recently graduated from AKI, van Vlodrop is preparing for a group show at Omstand in Arnhem and a solo exhibition at Tetem in Enschede. She has also been nominated for the Buning Brongers Prize, reflecting her growing recognition in the art world.

For Best of Graduates 2024, Lea presents work that looks into the nature of symbols and their roles in human perception and meaning-making. Van Vlodrop views the canvas not just as a medium, but as a symbol itself, challenging viewers to reconsider their engagement with this traditional art form. Her work is characterized by the use of familiar symbols reimagined into new visual contexts, creating a tapestry that invites viewers to explore how we name and understand the world around us. Through synchronicity, she integrates recognizable elements from various contexts without specific references, allowing the audience to rediscover these symbols anew.
