Loes van Roozendaal

Loes van Roozendaal (Amersfoort, 1996) studied at the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU). Living and working in Utrecht, The Netherlands, van Roozendaal’s work is deeply influenced by her desire to pause and capture moments in time. Her paintings are a testament to her longing to make transient experiences permanent, isolating moments of light and memory within the frame of her canvas. Through her innovative use of oil paint, she offers a unique perspective on the everyday, turning ordinary objects into profound explorations of light and time.

For Best of Graduates 2024, Loes presents explorations of light, time, and space through her meticulously crafted paintings. Van Roozendaal’s work begins with simple, everyday items from her home, such as a glass, and transforms them into complex studies of their interaction with changing light and surroundings. In her extensive series on a single glass, she examines how the object remains constant while the shifting light and elements alter its perceived form. This repetitive practice reveals deeper layers of meaning, capturing not just the object but also the ephemeral qualities of light and time.
