Vincent Zanni

In his projects, ‘La Maison’ and ‘Sights of Unary,’ Vincent Zanni (1995) delves into the contemporary significance of family archives and memories, following the death of his grandmother and the inevitable destruction of the family house. By immersing himself in his own family archives, he strives to unravel the intricate interplay between imagery and societal impact. Simultaneously, he pushes the boundaries of conventional photography, experimenting with techniques and materials in the darkroom.

“Through ‘La Maison’ and ‘Sights of Unary,’ I aim to explore the profound materiality and transient nature of the photograph as an object. Beyond their visual representation, I find equal importance in the physical qualities of the photographs, acknowledging their impermanence over time, I challenge the traditional notions of photography’s permanence and embrace the evolving nature of the medium.

By embracing the inherent tension between the past and the present, I seek to provoke contemplation on the ever-changing dynamics of memory, loss, and familial heritage. These projects serve as a testament to the enduring power of photographs to evoke emotions and preserve fragments of our collective human experience.”
