Thom van Rijckevorsel graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam in 2019 after having worked in advertising for more than fifteen years. As an artist, he uses different mediums, such as videos, drawings, sculptures, and installations in which he investigates the relationship between the constructed image and reality. How do you get a grip on a world in which physical and digital reality, matter and image, fact and fiction are increasingly blending into each other?
His first solo exhibition Rock Paper Screen recently took place in Museum JAN in Amstelveen; an installation with various video works, drawings and sculptures somewhere between a film set, a life-size sketch and a construction site.
“I use materials such as clay, wood, concrete, wire, paper and paint in combination with a simple action like kneading, pulling, pushing or rubbing. My works are various images on their way to becoming one image, changing, and keeping their options open for a while, searching for possibilities.”
