In light of the upcoming show Best of Graduates 2023, we asked a selection of BOG alumni a few questions regarding their experience with the annual show. Krijn Kroes participated in Best of Graduates 2020.

Can you tell us a little about your most special project after participating in Best of Graduates?

Surely the most special project that I have been working towards was last February, when TORCH Gallery, with whom I work, exhibited my work at Art Rotterdam. For me, that felt like a milestone, 2,5 years after I graduated from the HKU. It is a special experience that I look back on with great pleasure.

What is your most unforgettable memory of Best of Graduates?

I graduated in 2020 in the midst of the corona crisis and lockdowns. All along, the graduation looked like it was going down the drain and wouldn’t provide the exposure you more or less work toward during the years at art school. Eventually, a graduation exhibition was able to take place after all. Not long after, I was invited to the Best of Graduates exhibition at Galerie Ron Mandos. That did give the exposure I was hoping for. It gave the opportunity to meet new inspiring people, offered a valuable insight into the art world, and it brought my work out into the world.

Can you tell us something about a future project? What can we expect soon?

There is currently a duo exhibition of Robin Speijer and myself at Sanquin in Amsterdam. Other than that, I am working very hard in my studio. Over the next year, I will be working toward my solo exhibition opening in September 2024 at TORCH Gallery. It is nice to have that spot on the horizon and to be able to take the time to create new work.
