“In his energetic compositions, presenting traditions from his home country Argentina, figuration and abstraction merge and rival. You are drawn into the painting, joining the scenery, evoking different emotions.” – Joop van Caldenborgh | Founder of Museum Voorlinden

About the Artist

Born in Buenos Aires in 1998, Matias Salgado started painting in his teenage years by attending courses and seminars with an emphasis on the construction of the human figure. In 2017 he started presenting his work in fairs and exhibitions, working along with collectors around the world. In 2023 Matias received his BA in Fine Arts from Academie Minerva in Groningen. Since then, his work features in private collections in countries such as Argentina, Uruguay, Malaysia, Thailand and the Netherlands.

Inspired by big source array of material, Salgado creates imagery based on popular narratives and discourses of his Argentine background. By incorporating personal memories into common places and objects, he makes them his own. When working with his subjects, he recreates scenes where elements of figuration and abstraction combine and compete, resulting in his concept of a ‘suggestive image’.
